It's my birthday and love is pouring in from friends and family. Last night there was a torrential Spring Downpour and today the sky is shining blue, the bay trees along the creek in Blucher Valley are sparkling bright, and white wisps of clouds float lazily above. Pretty heavenly.
I woke up thinking about how different this birthday feels. No part of me desires traditional "celebration" on this day. I feel blessed to have these hours in the first part of my day and later this evening with my beautiful daughter and family to rest, relax, replenish, honor my space, cook some healthy food, take a walk, play a few songs, and enjoy the incredible peace and natural beauty of my home in Sonoma County. I feel healthy, balanced, free, excited, open. One of my gifts to myself is a much needed food detox lead by my friends Courtney and Venessa of Dive Deep Wellness, and I can feel joy, ease, and lightness returning to my body in this beautifully guided cleansing process.
I have embarked on some deep journeys of self-healing this year, primarily through working with Ashley Burnett in her Uninhibited Leadership Program. Through her guidance and program, including working with 10 other amazing women and Ashley's chakra based movement ritual (I am finally able to dance and move my body freely again! Feels so good!), I am releasing pain, sadness and stress that was literally blocking the communication between my creativity and my heart. Ashley is guiding me in developing my music business to be totally aligned with my life, my health, my mama-identity, emotional balance, freedom, and joy. I can't tell you how good this feels! I have been inspired to create the "Play for Love" song circle, a multi-level, year long experience designed to support and empower women to share their musical self-expression with joy and freedom. I believe that sharing your authentic voice heals from the inside-out.
So far, planting the seeds for Play For Love has been a magical process of giving and receiving. It's the most fun I've ever had planning anything! Wonderful people are showing up in my life seemingly spontaneously who are ready to step out on this path. The first Play for Love song circle started last week at my home in the beautiful Sebastopol countryside, and I can't wait to see where the journey takes us. I have had many powerful and amazing teachers in my life and it feels amazing to be intentionally stepping into the role of teacher and guide.
So, here's to balanced, lovely, soul-feeding musical and life adventures with my daughter in my 36th year. Cheers everyone! See you out there in the sunshine, or dancing in the rain : )
Today Bootleg Honey announced that I will be leaving the project. It's a bittersweet transition to be sure, one I have done months of deep soul searching about. It has been an incredibly special experience to be supported by the AMAZING community of Sonoma County (and beyond!) music lovers. The Bootleg Honey fans and Sonoma County Music Lovers are truly supportive of arts and artists. My creative collaboration with Katie Phillips and Bootleg Honey (Hannah Jern-Miller, Mark Tarlton, and Karen Joy Brown) has been one of the richest and wildest journeys of my creative life so far. I am putting my focus this Spring and Summer on enjoying my 7 year old daughter and the magical joy filled age she is in. I will be working on growing my teaching business out of the beautiful family property I live on in Sebastopol and continuing to create and sing from the heart. Love you and see you out there in the sunshine!
